Overcoming Comflicts

I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord (Philippians 4:2, NIV), Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ (Ephesians 4:15). Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body (Ephesians 4:25).

We have all had conflict in our relationships. It can be a simple conflict, or it can be the kind of conflict that ends a relationship for good. As long as people are involved, we will encounter conflict. Obviously, Euodia and Syntyche were in conflict with each other. Paul urges the church to mature in Christ and speak the truth in love to one another. We are to talk through our differences in hopes of reconciliation. Remember, Christ came to reconcile the world.

It often helps to try and understand where the other person is coming from when dealing with conflict. Conflict can frequently be resolved through more listening than talking. When we can put our own desires aside, lower our pride, and listen to the heart of the other person, we can get a better understanding of the differences that caused the conflict in the first place. Let us all speak truth in love, listen with compassion, and remember that we are all members of one body.

Be blessed in all you do!

Your brother in Christ,

Pastor Tim
